Released in 2020, the Digimon Card Game became a quick hit, popular with collectors and players alike. The game is less complex than many other games on the the market, and is suitable for younger players. There is a decent amount of depth, making this a good “step up” from something like Pokemon.
I attended the Flesh and Blood TCG Road to Nationals (US) on August 14th, 2021, at The Dragon’s Realm in Madison, Indiana. I played a Katsu deck and came in 9th place. See the video below to get my insights on this deck.
I attended the Flesh and Blood TCG Road to Nationals (US) at Game Time Indy, on August 7th. I selected a Dash deck. This is mainly the Matt Rogers list with a few changes made. I still give all credit for the list to Matt and the wonderful podcast they posted on CFB YouTube last week. The two changes I made to the list were cutting all three blue Pedal to the Metal for 1 additional Snag in the SB bumping that up to a full set of 3 Snag, and adding 2 blue Pour the Mold. I felt that in the Chane match up I needed the third copy of Snag just to ensure that I saw it when I needed it and the Pour the Mold was wanting more non attack action cards that blocked for 3 against Boltyn.
The Dragon Ball Super Card Game started in 2017, the newest game based on the long-running anime and manga property. DBS uses a system that evokes the rapid action of the series. The game uses a two-sided Leader Card, representing the main character of your deck. The deck contains 50 to 60 cards, with an optional sideboard of up to 15 cards for more competitive play. Decks use a mix of Battle Cards, Extra Cards, and the recently added Unison Cards. Any card that isn’t immediately useful can be played in the energy zone. The leader you have chosen will influence the strategy and playstyle of your deck, but doesn’t impose strict limits on what cards you can use. BCW carries several items that will help protect and transport your DBS deck. The Leader Cards are two-sided, making normal sleeves less than ideal. A clear sleeve like the Deck Guard allows both sides to be seen, although many players prefer to use a Mini Snap Card Holder. Deck boxes can vary depending on what you use on your leader card. If you use a clear sleeve, almost any standard deck box will work for you. A good example is the Deck Case LX. Using a Deck Vault 100 will give space for your deck, leader in a mini snap, and have room for dice and tokens if your deck needs them. The Deck Vault 200 pictured below has trays for two decks, plus an extra tray for dice or tokens. In any case, sleeves will be useful as well.
Dragon Ball Super is a fast-paced game with few to no “dead turns”, easily playable in both casual and competitive situations. If you are a fan of the show, or even if not, it may be worth looking into for your next game.
Released in October 2019 by Legend Story Studios, Flesh and Blood quickly became a smash hit, appealing to both players and collectors. The first game by the studio, Flesh and Blood is proving to be one of the most exciting new releases in recent memory.
At the most basic, Flesh and Blood is a dueling game. Players represent one of several unique heroes, use various equipment, and exchange attacks until one player deals the fatal blow. On the surface, the game is deceptively simple, but as you dig deeper into the mechanics, the complexity grows without becoming overwhelming. A quick how to play video can be found below.
In 2012, Paizo released a product for the Pathfinder campaign setting titled Distant Worlds, which described the other planets sharing the Pathfinder solar system. This mix of science fiction and fantasy paved the way for the release of Starfinder in 2017. Taking place in the same universe as Pathfinder, it is designed to be compatible, with characters, creatures, and spells easily converted. The rules are similar, with additional components to more easily reflect the science fiction influence. The supplies needed for the game are essentially the same for Pathfinder; a set of polyhedral dice, a character sheet, and something to write with. The Beginner Box has the base elements to get you going, but of course there are several accessories to enhance your experience.
Continue readingMarvel Champions is an exciting Fantasy Flight card game where one to four players portray Marvel universe heroes, trying to prevent a villain from completing an evil scheme. This is a living card game, meaning you start with a core set of cards, and then add expansion Hero Packs, and Scenario Packs as desired. The original box, has some nice dividers built into the box insert, but another system will be needed if you want to better organize a larger collection.

However, since I’m more interested in using the cards than collecting them, simply shoving them into a box isn’t going to work for me.
