Team BCW’s Louisville Weekend Recap

Team BCW with special guests Caleb Scherer and Paul Muller at Through the Decades

Team BCW members visited Louisville May 18th through 20th for another BCW Challenge and the Star City Games Louisville Open. Friday night’s BCW Challenge was held at Through The Decades Gaming. The team had 53 challengers… a new record for a BCW Challenge. Players competed with Team BCW members Todd Stevens, Ross Merriam, and Tannon Grace, along with special guests Caleb Scherer and Paul Muller. 16 of the 53 challengers defeated one of the pro players. Thanks to Through The Decades and the local TTD players for making this a super BCW Challenge!

Team BCW had a great start to the SCG Louisville Open on Saturday. Todd, Ross, and Tannon were all able to finish with a record that pushed them into Day Two. Todd played G/W Value Town and finished the day with a record of 8-1. Ross, playing Blue Moon, and Tannon, playing Humans, both finished Saturday with a 7-2 record.

On Sunday, the team fought hard, but in the end they fell short of making the Top 8. Todd finished in 10th place, just missing the Top 8. Ross finished in 16th place and Tannon finished in 25thplace. Overall it was a great showing for Team BCW with all three team members making Day Two and all three finished in the Top 32.

Todd, Ross, and Tannon at SCG Louisville

Please join us for the next BCW Challenge at Lodestone Coffee and Games in Minnetonka, MN, on Friday, May 25th at 8pm. You’ll be able to challenge either Jim Davis or Todd Stevens to a game of Standard, Modern, or Legacy. Then over the weekend, Team BCW will fight for wins at #SCGMINN . Make sure to check out the SCG Open on Twitch if you can’t attend the event in Minneapolis.

A Super Weekend for Team BCW in Baltimore

Team BCW had an amazing weekend in Baltimore. The team held a BCW Challenge at MTGFirst in Glen Burnie during the May 4th Friday Night Magic. We had over 30 challengers take on THE Tannon Grace, Jim Davis, and Ross Merriam. The talent pool was deep and we handed out 13 special prizes to the winners and all 30 plus challengers got a free pack of BCW’s Elite Deck Guards.

Tannon, Jim, and Ross at MTGFirst in Glen Burnie

The May 5th & 6th Star City Games Baltimore Open was another team format. The five Team BCW members were split among 3 teams in the Open. Team BCW members Tannon Grace (Legacy), Ross Merriam (Modern), and Brennan DeCandio (Standard) finished Day One with a record of 7-1-1 to make Day Two. Team BCW member Todd Stevens (Modern) played with Jody Keith (Legacy) and Collins Mullen (Standard), finishing Day One with a perfect 9-0 record. Team BCW member Jim Davis (Legacy) joined with his former Team Metagame Gurus teammates, Dan (Standard) and Andrew Jessup (Modern), and they just missed advancing to Day Two with a record of 6-3.

Brennan, Tannon, and Ross finished 2nd at SCG Baltimore

On Sunday, both advancing teams made great runs to make Top 8. The two teams were on the opposite sides of the Top 8 brackets and would have to play each other if they made the Finals. Unfortunately the team of Jody, Todd, and Collins was eliminated in the Top 4. Brennan, Tannon, and Ross advanced to the Finals, but in a close set of games, they settled for second place. It was a great run for everyone and a fun weekend.

The Top 8 brackets at SCG Baltimore

Team BCW will convene next in Louisville. Join us for a BCW Challenge on Friday, May 18th, at Through the Decades Cards. If you can defeat a Team BCW member in a single game of Magic during the BCW Challenge, you’ll receive a prize from BCW, and all participants get a free pack of Elite Deck Guards. Then on May 19th and 20th, the team will compete for the hardware at #SCGKY. We hope to see you there.

Brennan, Ross, and Tannon at SCGATL

On Saturday, the Star City Games Open in Atlanta was another team event with two teams that included Team BCW members. The first team was Brennan DeCandio playing Standard, Ross on Modern, and Tannon on Legacy. The second team was Team BCW member Todd playing Standard, along with friends Daryl Ares on Modern, and Jody Keith on Legacy. Brennan, Ross, and Tannon failed to reach Day Two, but Todd, Daryl, and Jody made Day Two with a record of 7-2.

Jody, Daryl, and Todd at SCGATL

On Sunday, Todd and friends fought to finish in 10th place, just missing the Top Eight due to tie breakers. Tannon had a rough go with the Legacy Classic, but Brennan had a strong showing in the Standard Classic with his U/W Control list. Brennan finished the Swiss rounds in the number one seed but due to his flight home he had to drop from the tournament to make it to the airport on time for his flight home.

Make sure to join us four our next BCW Challenge on Friday, May 4th, at MTG First in Glen Burnie, MD. Team BCW will then participate at SCG Baltimore. If you and your friends cannot attend #SCGBALT for the team event, make sure to tune into the SCG coverage on Twitch.

Protecting Photo Slides in Binder Pages

Slides were a popular form or photography in the 20th century. Kodak introduced their first 2×2 inch slides in 1937, and slides grew in popularity as the company designed better slide projectors and it became easier to get slides developed (A Brief History of Slide Projectors, McKeever, 2004). Today’s digital photography has made photo slides a novelty, but families and collectors still will want to protect their slides for future viewing. Storing slides in a dark, cool, dry environment is important (Storage and Care of KODAK Photographic Materials).

Slides are often stored in specifically designed slide boxes, or in 3-ring binder pages. BCW Supplies manufactures clear 20-pocket binder pages, and a 12-slot black paper page. These pages (listed below) are a great option if you want to quickly view your slides, as you can lay the page on a light table or in front of a bright surface to view the slides. If you plan to insert your slides into a projector frequently, then a slide box may be a better option.
