How to Store and Display Your Hockey Puck Collection?

BCW Graded Shoe box with puck boxes

By Sal Barry

Many puck collectors I know are the “all-in” type who purchase almost every unique puck they find and then put it on display with the hundreds of other pucks in their collection, usually in some custom-built display that costs a lot of money and takes up an entire wall. Me? I don’t have the space or the budget for that. I’m more of a casual puck collector. Card collecting is my favorite hobby, but it is hard for me to resist buying a hockey puck every now and then, be it from a special game or commemorative event, or with the logo of some long-gone team. And I love getting pucks signed by my favorite players; pucks look great when signed in silver Sharpie or silver paint pen, and it is a shame to not display those. The problem is that over time, all these pucks start to pile up, can take a lot of display space and be tricky to store without damaging them.

Protecting Restaurant Menus with Toploading Holders

For a restaurant, visual appeal is important, making a great-looking menu one of the elements to success. After the food has been selected, and a beautiful menu has been designed, it’s important for restaurants to keep their menus looking new and clean. Toploading Print Holders, or simply toploaders, may be the perfect choice for your restaurant, diner, or bar. Toploaders work great if your menu is a single sheet of paper (two-sided), but toploaders are not the solution for you if your menu has multiple pages that fold.

Toploaders are semi-rigid holders that are essentially two layers of clear PVC plastic. The sides and bottom are sealed with plastic ribs, while the top is open, allowing you to slide the menu into the holder. This PVC material is super simple for staff to quickly wipe clean, just try to prevent liquids from getting into the top of the holder. This material is durable and unlikely to break if dropped.

Whether they sell to customers in the shop, or sell the cards online and ship them, organization is key to managing a large card collection. Below is the storage and shipping system used by Pandemonium Games and Hobbies of Detroit, and Level Up Games and Comics of Atlanta.

What Size of Bags and Boards Do You Need to Protect a Magazine Collection?

To best preserve a magazine collection, store them in a dark, dry, cool environment. To further protect magazines, place them in sealed magazine bags with a magazine backing board inserted in the bag behind each magazine. The bags and boards will protect the edges, keep the covers in good condition, and minimize the effects of oxidation (the paper turning yellow). BCW magazine bags are made from either polypropylene or mylar. Both materials are acid-free. BCW backing boards are acid-free as well.

How to Build an Awesome-Looking Sports Card Library

By Sal Barry

Sports card collections are always a work in progress caught somewhere between chaos and order, but every card enthusiast has some method of organization that helps them enjoy their collection. Putting my cards into pages and albums, then storing them on bookcases, has helped me tame the chaos. This way, I can quickly find a specific card or set to look at and enjoy; or easily put away a new card when I add it to my collection. A fellow collector once remarked that my collection looked like “The Library of Congress for Hockey Cards,” which I took as a huge compliment. If you have a little floor space in your bedroom, rec room or “man cave,” you too can create your own impressive sports card library.

Moving to a new home is a stressful time – even more stressful if you also have a collection that needs to be moved. In a perfect world, you buy a house and then start filling it with sports cards and other treasures, without ever having to worry about getting your collection safely from Point A to Point B.

But things don’t always happen that way. Maybe you rediscovered collecting a few years after college, dug up your old collection out of your parents’ basement, and took it back to your apartment to rekindle your interest. Or maybe you sold your house for that bigger and better house. Regardless of the reason, when you move, you want to move your collection without it getting damaged. After living in the same place for 12 years, I recently had to relocate myself and my sports card collection to a new home. Here are four tips on how to do it safely and effectively.
