What Size of Bags and Boards Do You Need to Protect a Magazine Collection?

To best preserve a magazine collection, store them in a dark, dry, cool environment. To further protect magazines, place them in sealed magazine bags with a magazine backing board inserted in the bag behind each magazine. The bags and boards will protect the edges, keep the covers in good condition, and minimize the effects of oxidation (the paper turning yellow). BCW magazine bags are made from either polypropylene or mylar. Both materials are acid-free. BCW backing boards are acid-free as well.

Putting my cards into pages and albums, then storing them on bookcases, has helped me tame the chaos. This way, I can quickly find a specific card or set to look at and enjoy; or easily put away a new card when I add it to my collection. A fellow collector once remarked that my collection looked like “The Library of Congress for Hockey Cards,” which I took as a huge compliment. Moving to a new home is a stressful time – even more stressful if you also have a collection that needs to be moved. In a perfect world, you buy a house and then start filling it with sports cards and other treasures, without ever having to worry about getting your collection safely from Point A to Point B.

Maybe you rediscovered collecting a few years after college, dug up your old collection out of your parents’ basement, and took it back to your apartment to rekindle your interest. How to Protect and Store Graded Cards

While most collectors keep their cards removable holders, many choose to have their cards graded and encased in rigid card slabs. For a service fee, trusted companies such as Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), Beckett Grading Services (BGS), SGC, Certified Sports Guaranty (CSG), Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), International Sports Authentication (ISA), Premier Card Grading (PCG), and Hybrid Grading Approach (HGA) will grade your card and encase them in a sealed card slab. BCW offers several solutions for storing your graded cards.

Before all of that, you will need to get your cards sent in to be graded. Collectors use items such as Semi-Rigid holders, as grading companies prefer these over holders like toploaders. In fact, using a different holder can lead to the grading process taking longer.

When paired with a Penny Sleeve, a semi-rigid can act as a protective solution on its own. BCW offers several boxes to store semi-rigid holders, whether you plan to send to graders en masse or use them as your preferred storage solution.
