Trading Card & Comic Book Overproduction: Why Bulk Storage Matters
15 years ago, Magic: The Gathering® entered its Twilight era with the release of Innistrad, a Gothic horror-themed set. That capped off what would be the fourth and final major Magic release of 2011. Over 1,360 unique cards in total were released that year.
Last year, we were treated to an eye-watering seven major sets—1,845 unique cards and heaps of supplementary products. (That includes Secret Lair, which added well over 100 limited-run drops in 2025 alone.) 1 Another seven full sets are slated through 2026. Similarly, the comic book market has exploded from $715 million in 2011 to $2.2 billion in 2025.2 3
For game players and collectors alike, cardboard and comic stacks are growing faster than shelf space—and bulk trading card storage and comic book storage have become part of the hobby, not an afterthought.
