How to Protect and Store Non-US Coins

While coin collecting isn’t limited to US currency, most holders from American companies are based on those sizes. If you collect world coins, or aren’t an American, this can create some confusion. Below, I will go over some tips and tricks to help pick the right holder for your coin when there isn’t an obvious choice.

The first thing you will want to do is find out the diameter of the coin in question. There are two ways to do this; loot it up on the internet, or measure coin you have. Internet research is probably the fastest and easiest. However, measuring your specific coin can give more accurate results. In general, searching online is the preferred method, as it is accurate and fast.

Once you have your diameter, you need to find a holder that is closest to that size. If there’s not an exact match, you will almost always want to go a little bigger rather than smaller. With Coin Snaps and Display Slab Inserts, you can trim the opening to increase the diameter, letting it hold a larger coin than normal. If you choose to go this route, it’s important to be careful, as it’s very easy to make uneven cuts, making the coin look odd or out of place. Similarly, with Coin Flips, if you place the staples closer to the window, you can add pressure to the windows, helping keep the coin in place.
