Team BCW is Back for 2022!

Star City Games has announced the return to hosting MTG in-person events with the 2022 SCG CON series. Approximately twelve SCG CONs are planned, with Philly, Indy, and Dallas listed as the first destinations. These will be independent events, not a tour in which players accumulate points. All of the heavyweight hitters of Team BCW from 2020 are returning 2022, including Shaheen Soorani, Daryl Ayers, Eli Kassis, Corey Baumeister, Ross Merriam, and Pete Ingram. Team BCW is excited to announce “The Esper Professor” Shaheen Soorani is returning. Shaheen has 13 SCG Tour Top 8s (winning 2), 5 consecutive SCG Invitational Top 8s, and just finished in the Top 8 of the most recent SCG Invitational for number 6! On the professional side, he has 2 GP Top 8s and has played in 27 Pro Tours, with a 9th place finish at Worlds in 2006. His other contributions come from his writing at Star City Games, where he started making content in 2006. Sixteen years later, he is still carrying the control banner through his articles.

Team BCW welcomes back Daryl Ayers as a member of our 2022 team. Daryl has 1 GP Top 8, 14 SCG Tour Top 8s with two trophies to show. Daryl was a 2014 Magic Online Championship Series (MOCS) competitor, and boasts the highest SCG Open conversion percentage with Corey Baumeister hot on his trail. Daryl is known as a Legacy specialist looking to flex old muscles in the upcoming year.

Eli Kassis has been playing Magic since 1993 when he was 10 years old. He’s a member of the Magic Pro League, after moving up from the Rivals League. Eli has a Top 8 from Worlds 2021, a Top 8 at an old school Pro Tour (before they became regional and then online), 10 Grand Prix Top 8s, 2 Grand Prix wins, 3 SCG Open wins, 1 SCG Invitation win, and 20+ SCG Open Top 8s. During the day, Eli is a Therapist of Mental Health.

Corey Baumeister is a commentator for Wizards of the Coast. You can catch his Twitch streams and recorded YouTube videos. Watch Corey on the SCG Commander VS Live! and VS Live series. Corey manages a Patreon page where he helps Magic players take their game to the next level. As far as tournaments goes, Corey played on the Pro Tour from 2008-2017, until he took a position as a WotC commentator. He has racked up 1 Top 16 and 8 Top 32’s on the Pro Tour. In SCG events, he has 8 Top 8s (winning 4 of them) including the 2021 SCG Invitational. Corey also has 7 Grand Prix Top 8s (winning 1).

Ross has been playing Magic: the Gathering competitively for over 20 years, and has been creating written and video content about high-level strategy for the last eight. He’s one of the most decorated players in the history of the SCG Tour, and with his experience he brings a deep knowledge of nearly every competitive format as well as Magic theory. His unique combination of experience, knowledge, and skill makes everyone on Team BCW a better player.

Pete Ingram is not only returning to Team BCW but also returning to competitive Magic: the Gathering. Pete has an impressive record including 1 Pro Tour Top 8, 3 Grand Prix Top 8s (1 win), 2 Invitational Top 8s, 9 SCG Open Top 8s (4 wins). Pete brings experience, passion, knowledge, and a competitive edge.
