How To Protect, Store, and Display Disney Lorcana

It’s safe to say that Lorcana is a hit. With the official release behind us, many new to the hobby players find they lack the proper means to keep their growing collection safe. In this article, I want to give a few options to make collecting and storing Lorcana easier.

Packs of Lorcana Cards

Our first concern is how to organize the cards. While this can technically wait until later in the process, the earlier you start the easier it will be overall. I would recommend sorting by color, then further subdividing the cards. If you are mostly a collector, arranging by card number will work best. Conversely, for those that mostly want to play, card type will be most useful. Sorting by rarity is a middle ground between the two and is especially helpful when building a trade binder.

Lorcana cards in a Modular Sorting Tray

BCW offers 3 products to help you sort your cards: the Sorting Tray Storage Box, the Card Sorting Tray, and the Modular Sorting Tray. Any of them will work for sorting a collection, especially as packs are opened. In my experience, packs have one common card of each of the six ink colors, and more cells let you separate cards of higher rarity by color as well.

Next, you will need something to store your cards in. Here, you have two styles: cardboard boxes and plastic bins. If you have a small collection or are brand new to the hobby, I would suggest cardboard boxes. Otherwise, the investment in the bins will more than worthwhile. The size of box that you need depends on the size of your collection, although it’s almost always better to get a box bigger than you need at first, since you’ll probably buy more cards. If you plan to use magnetics or toploaders for cards, you will also have to make sure the box you choose will hold them. This article gives an overview of what card holders fit in each of our boxes.

Sleeved cards with plastic deck box

If you plan on playing the game, you have extra needs to fill. You will want to get card sleeves for your deck, and might even want to double sleeve. Next, you will want something for transportation. The Deck Case LX will hold up to 80 single sleeved cards. If you need to keep your game accessories in the same container, the Deck Vault LX 100 offers space for your deck as well as dice or counters. The Deck Vault LX 200 is similar but holds 2 decks. The Elite2 Sleeve and Inner Sleeve Combo Pack solved the issue of both sleeves and deck box. Finally, if you carry multiple decks with you, the Prime X4 Deck Box holds 4 single sleeved decks and has plenty of room for dice and tokens.

Hopefully these options give you ideas on how to best handle your storage needs. While it can be intimidating, having a solid plan from the beginning can make the project easier. However, don’t be afraid to change your system if you find something that works better for you. At the end of the day, whatever you’re most comfortable with is the best option.
