MHA Deck Tech – Mei Hatsume

Mei Hatsume was introduced to the My Hero Academia game in the Crimson Rampage set. Initially, opinions were negative, with most considering the character mid-tier at best. However, players soon realized that Mei can grant large and consistent damage bonuses while also maintaining significant card advantage.

This deck uses the Life resource. While decks will typically use All to make use of several powerful Weapon attacks, Life grants more interaction with flipping foundations, making Mei’s Enhance more powerful overall.

My Hero Academia cards fanned out

Using the First Form to build a copy of Box Full of Babies is vital. They provide both card draw and damage bonuses. Glamorous is a powerful card in this deck. As Mei’s Enhance ability requires flipping a foundation, being able to unflip one is extremely useful. Additionally, the Enhance ability is useful to counter any speed reduction on your attacks. Likewise, Start With the Basics is an all around solid card in the deck, as almost everything is Weapon based. Try to avoid flipping it if possible. Also, Floating Around My Babies is another good source of constant damage increase. Passing the Torch is more useful in early turns, as you will likely draw more cards, but makes a great foundation to flip to use Mei’s Enhance after turn 3 or 4. The rest of the foundations are utility cards that are used to fuel Mei’s ability.

Calvary Chariot Advance is the best opening card, as it not only can make your next attack hit harder or easier to play, but it also gives a speed bonus to every other attack you play that turn. Navel Laser Charge is very useful, almost always using the second Enhance. The ability to potentially gain health is useful too. In addition, Instant Shining Flash is a solid attack that forces your opponent to discard a momentum after it is played, making it useful against decks that want to hoard momentum. Electromagnetic Stomp is able to pull itself from momentum, trading a dead card for a good attack. Cannon Blast has the potential to hit high damage without any other cards. However, Home Run Comet is the MVP, as it can generate a momentum on its own, and if your timing is right, get a high Powerful Rating.

The deck wants to stack as much damage as possible with little concern to anything else. Since speed isn’t being increased as much, attacks can still be blocked. However, by waiting until your opponent has few cards in hand you can typically force at least a couple of attacks through. Likewise, you need to be careful when you go all in on attacks. It’s a good idea to play at least one attack a turn, especially after you get 2 copies of Box Full of Babies in play. For the most part, the deck struggles against anything that limits the number of foundations you have in play. Likewise, anything that can reduce or eliminate your damage bonuses will counter the deck entirely.

If you like throwing big haymakers every round, or drawing enough cards to be prepared for almost any situation, this Mei be the deck for you.
