Storing and Protecting Marvel United

Marvel United is a cooperative board game in which 1 to 4 players each represent one of the many heroes from the Marvel universe, trying to stop the schemes of the chosen villain. Teamwork is necessary, as everything you do effects what the other players can do on their turns.

The game begins with the villain taking the first turn. The players place the top card of the Master Plan deck face-up on the table. This is the start of the Storyline. The first player draws a card then plays a card face up in the Storyline. Subsequent turns are similar, but players can perform actions on the previous 2 hero cards in addition to their own. Heroes win if they complete 2 of the 3 missions and deal enough damage to knock the villain out. The players lose if the villain’s plot is successful or if they run out of Master Plan cards. They also lose if a Hero runs out of cards in their hand and deck. You can find more information on the official site.

For storing a single set, the default box works fine. There are a number of expansions and extra characters, so a more compact solution may be helpful. The issue of storing the hero and master plan cards alone is simple. For example, a cardboard box of the appropriate size is good enough, along with Horizontal Card Dividers to divide the characters. However, this doesn’t hold the villain cards, dashboard, or locations. A better option is the 3 Row Game Box. With a bottom spacer removed, along with one of the partitions, the box holds every card. If you plan to sleeve your cards, account for the extra depth of sleeved cards. Bit Boxes fit in the 3 Row Card Game Box to hold the various tokens. Unpainted miniatures can fit in the box as well, turning it to an all-in-one solution.

Given the nature and detail of the minis, players will likely want to paint them. In this case, special consideration needs to be taken. A simple, effective, and inexpensive option is to use the Sorting Tray Box along with Monster Pads in each of the cells. A foam pad is placed at the bottom of each cell before placing the minis. Each cell will hold 2 or 3 miniatures comfortably. For maximum protection, you may consider limiting to one figure per cell. Regardless of the number, another monster pad is placed over the minis. While there is extra space, the fit is tight, making movement unlikely. Cutting a monster pad in half to place over the top layer of foam will ensure no movement happens.
