Injection Molded Hobby Supplies

Many products offered by BCW Supplies are made through an injection molding process. This includes magnetic card holders, coin tubes, and most ball display cases. Injection molding involves pressing a molten plastic into a mold. The mold, or tool, is a steel or aluminum form with a cavity that will be filled by the plastic. The hot plastic is pressed into the mold in a location that will best allow the plastic to fill throughout the cavity. After the plastic has cooled inside the mold, the cast piece is removed from the mold.

The point at which the plastic was injected will remain as a small mark. This point is called a birthmark. These molds also have a few points that allow the air inside the mold to escape when the cavity is filled with plastic. These points are not imperfections, simply marks that are inherent to the injection molding process.
