Infinite Power! A Trazyn the Infinite EDH Deck Tech
By Serena
Hey guys! Serena, back at it again with another commander deck tech! This time we’re talking about Trazyn the Infinite from the Warhammer 40k Necron precon. While I fully admit I know little of 40k lore, Trazyn himself is an interesting commander who gains all activated abilities of artifacts in your graveyard. This ability really lets him live up to his epithet, which can lead to several variations of combo-killing the table, either through damage or through mill.

How are we getting to these combo pieces? Let’s start with our setup. Probably the best card for the setup is Disciples of Gix, which even though it’s 6 mana, lets us send 3 artifacts from deck to graveyard, which is just enough to combo off with Trazyn. Other good cards for us in this category are Entomb, Oriq Loremae and Vile Entomber, all of which send any card from deck to grave. Fanatical Offering, Beseech the Mirror and Deadly Dispute can be used to sacrifice combo pieces you’ve had to put into play to go through our deck. Necron Deathmark, Szarekh, the Silent King, and Takenuma, Abandoned Mire can all mill cards for us, while Matzalantli, the Great Door and Geier Reach Sanitarium both have loot effects.

So, what are we trying to bin? Well there’s a few things. First things first are the mana rocks: Sol Ring, Worn Powerstone, Gilded Lotus, or Scepter of Eternal Glory. Basically anything that can make two or more mana is a good start. Second, things that can let Trazyn untap like Voltaic Construct, Staff of Domination, and Pili-Pala. Because the Staff can untap itself for 1 mana, that means Trazyn will be able to too, which makes it and Pili-Pala the stronger ones to send for this. Finally, the other piece you want in the grave will be some way of using the infinite mana you generate off the first two things into winning the game. Walking Ballista, Codex Shredder, Millstone, and even Steel Overseer can all make things really dangerous, but the Overseer is a bit iffy in that we don’t really have an easy way guarantee an attack with our infinitely powerful commander.
I’ve mentioned some draw and consistency cards already, but a few others include Mystic Forge and Bolas’s Citadel, which both let us look at and cast the top card of our deck. Inventor’s Fair, Beseech the Mirror, and Diabolic Tutor all search the deck directly. Endless Atlas is a cheap and repeatable card draw and Canoptek Spyder draws a card whenever we play another artifact creature. Combine all this with the other ways we have of finding our stuff and we’re pretty consistent overall.

As far as removal, we have Feed the Swarm and Withering Torment, which hit creatures or enchantments, while Bitter Triumph can also hit planeswalkers. Defile and Liliana of the Dark Realms can all get around indestructible, and Liliana (or in my case, Luka) can also ramp you and thin your deck of Swamps. Our board wipes are Mutilate and Their Name Is Death, one of which is basically one-sided (we only have 3 non-artifact creatures for the latter to worry about) and the other also gets around indestructible.
Now I’m going to mention our (admittedly small) lineup of protection, which is mainly for Trazyn himself. The classic Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves will let us protect him and combo off slightly faster, giving him Haste. Darksteel Forge gives all of our artifacts indestructible if we can land it’s massive 9 mana cost, which shouldn’t be too hard thanks to Cabal Coffers, Cabal Stronghold and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, all of which are searchable with Urza’s Care and Expedition Map. Finally, Cryptothrall isn’t your average crypto bro since they give all of our other artifact creatures hexproof. This is even more effective if we can drop our Sculpting Steel to copy it, since then they give it to each other, too.
All in all, Trazyn is a deck I’ve had a lot of fun with. You can find the decklist on Moxfield.
I’ll catch you next time!
Serena, signing out!
