Massacre Girl EDH Deck Tech

By Serena L.

Hey guys! It’s Serena, back again! Let’s talk about killing. Specifically, killing creatures in a commander game. That’s the whole game plan for this Massacre Girl, Known Killer deck I’ve been brewing, and I think you guys will like this one too.

Sample of cards used in the commander deck

The newest Massacre Girl is a 4/4 human assassin with menace for two colorless and two black. She also says that whenever a creature an opponent controls dies with less than 1 toughness we get to draw a card. On top of that, she gives all our creatures the keyword Wither, which means they deal damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters. This is a nice way to enable Massacre Girl’s draw effect through normal combat, but we do have a few ways to make it more effective, too. However our main focus is controlling the creatures on the board by putting enough negatives onto our opponent’s creatures to keep their fields open and our hand full.

Outside of combat, some of the other ways we’re enabling our creature killing is with cards like Harvester of Misery, Skinrender, Tragic Slip and Grasp of Darkness for spot removal and Black Sun’s Zenith, Toxic Deluge and the original Massacre Girl for board wipes. We also have Crypt Rats and Thrashing Wumpus as creatures we can use to damage each creature and each player. Those are the reason we’re playing protection from black enablers so they can keep withering everything down without killing themselves. Maha, It’s Feathers Night makes all of these board wipes a lot easier to enable when it’s making all our opponent’s creatures have base toughness 1.

A combo used in the commander deck

Speaking of wiping boards and Maha, there’s a little combo in here with a few variants I like to call the Machine Gun Combo, which requires either Triskelion or Walking Ballista and either Mephidross Vampire or one of Blade of the Bloodchief or Tarrian’s Soulcleaver equipped to the creature. (the latter two are made easier to do this with Maha on the field). Ballista and Triskelion both can remove the +1/+1 counters they enter with to deal 1 damage to any target. Mephidross says whenever one of your creatures deals damage to another creature it gets a +1/+1 counter, and both equipment say when a creature hits the graveyard to put a +1/+1 counter on the equipped creature, allowing you to repeat until no creature targets remain.

Useful cards used in the commander deck

Some of our wincons outside of just beating face with empty boards are things like Massacre Wurm, The Meathook Massacre and Syr Konrad, the Grim to help us to help us drain our opponents down, and Revel in Riches to get us mana and then push us over the finish line with enough treasure. Spitting Dilophosaurus can also let our creatures slink through unblocked with it’s ability that stops our opponent’s creatures with -1/-1 counters from blocking. And that isn’t just our attacks that it opens lanes for either!

Then we have a few other cards that double as kinds of utility. Blowfly Infestation is nice since it lets us chain our counters when something dies, even turning into a board wipe with Maha out. Nest of Scarabs gives us a 1/1 every time we put a counter on something, including when we let our creatures with wither hit other creatures, or wipe the board with Black Sun’s Zenith, generating us a whole army of insects. Necroskitter lets us steal our opponent’s recently deceased creatures, and Vat of Rebirth is just a good, consistent way of bringing back our own dead creatures. You can find everything on the Moxfield list here, where I have tags enabled.

For now, I think it’s about time I slip back into the shadows! See you soon!
