How to Store Your Magazine Collection

When doing some spring cleaning, I came to the realization that I needed to do something with the stacks of collectible Beckett and Sports Illustrated For Kids magazines I had sitting on my bookshelves and make them look a little more organized and not so much “I am hoarding”.
That’s when I went online shopping and grabbed some materials that would help with this project.
First, I grabbed an easy-to-assemble storage bin that will help keep the magazines off from the bookshelves and put them in a place that is more tidy. I also could use the bookshelf space for other books I have laying around.
Next, I needed protection for the magazines since they are collectibles and some hold value. I grabbed two different sized magazine bags to cover the two types of thicknesses I knew were in the pile along with some backing boards.
The backing boards are not only for stability for the magazine, but I planned to use them as well for labeling of the prominent copies.
First, I prepped the backings into the magazine bags ahead of time that way all I had to do was slide the magazines in. I started with the thinner ones first.
And when I came across a noteworthy magazine, I took out the backing, labeled it then slid it back in. For example, this Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine has the Caitlin Clark Rookie Card inside.
The backing boards have both a glossy side and rough side. I use the glossy side for the back of the magazine and the rough side to write the information on which opposite of the magazine cover side so you can see it on the backside of the magazine bag.
Once I got those put together, I added them to the Storage Bin. The bin holds quite a few so I knew I had room to add the Becketts in as well.
Then I began work on the thicker magazines. This particular magazine had to be labeled since it was my first featured article in Beckett.
Once the Becketts were completed, I put in the divider for the storage bin then added the Becketts. The divider helps keep the two separate from one another so I can find what I am looking for quicker.
Now that my project is finally accomplished, I am feeling much better about their new location and knowing that they are protected from the elements since the storage bin features a locking system on top.
Time to utilize that extra bookshelf space with books this time.
