Cardfight Vanguard Michu Deck Tech

By Serena L.

Stand up! Vanguard!

It’s Serena again! Do you like robots, idols, or cannons? If you said yes to any of those questions, I have the deck for you! Michu is Lyrical Monasterio’s ride line based on the Glitter mechanic, which is a keyword mechanic with some support cards specific to it. With the exception of Lyrical Monasterio, all the Glitter decks actually feature cards of different Nations working together.

Cardfight Vanguard deck, sorted and spread out

Starting off with our Ride Deck, we have Afternoon Dance Lesson, Michu. It is a standard D series starter, but we need her specifically for our grade 1, Happy Shopping, Michu. When she rides a grade 0 with Michu in it’s name she searches for an Order card called All Set Up. Then, it goes into our Order Zone, which is the central theme of the deck. When our Grade 2, Sparkling Summer! Michu rides on a grade 1 Michu, look at the top 5 and choose a card with Noqno in it’s name or one Cannonball card from them and put it into our hand. Both the grade 1 and 2 also have the Glitter keyword, but that isn’t important yet. The final card in our Ride Deck is First to Head Towards a Dream, Michu. This is a Glitter keyworded card that says if we have All Set Up in our Order Zone, once per turn we can Counter Blast 1 to draw a card and either call it to rear or discard it. She also has a Cannonball effect, and this is where her gimmick comes in. When she attacks you can Soul Blast 2 to have Michu get 5k power and retire one of your opponent’s rear guards! There’s another thing that Cannonball can do, but first, on to our grade 1s.

The main grade 1 is 4 copies of Shy Vocal, Noqno. You want to see one in your opening hand. Noqno is another Glitter card, and has a special effect when you’re playing Michu specifically. Noqno’s effect says when a card is placed into the Order Zone and you don’t have a Noqno on the field, you can SB1 to call her to center back row rear guard circle. The Michu specific effect says if she’s on the back center rear circle at the end of the battle your Vanguard attacked and your opponent’s vanguard is grade 3 or higher you can CB1 and discard a card to stand Noqno and swap her with Michu. Then, you swap them back at the end of the turn. Generally, you Boost with Noqno and restand and swap her with Michu. If you happen to get a trigger or other boost, you generally want to power up Noqno so she can attack for a Drive Check. Our other grade 1 will be 4 Shutter Chance, Ilse. When the attack Ilse boosts hits a Vanguard, if you have All Set Up in the Order Zone you can check the top 5 and reveal up to one Glitter card or a set order and add it to your hand. If you do so, Ilse goes to the bottom of the deck. Her targets are Noqno, Persona Ride copies of Michu, or a card named Flower Cannonball.

We also only play 2 different grade 2s in our main deck, 4 of each Schedule Coordinating Remory and I’monStage! Ronovea. Ronovea is pretty simple, if you have All Set Up in play, she gets 5k power and shield. When Remory attacks a grade 3 or greater unit she gets 5k power if you have All Set Up. She also says when her attack hits we can SB1 to choose a Cannonball from our drop and put it in our Order Zone.

For grade 3s we have a fairly simple line up of 3 Persona Ride copies of Michu and 2 copies of Brighter than the Sun, Viine, Viine says when she is on rear and she attacks a Vanguard and you have All Set Up she gets 5k power. Then, if you put a set order from drop onto the bottom of your deck, she gains another 5k. We don’t usually need this effect, but we can deck out easily, so we play her at 2 to prevent that.

Cardfight Vanguard cards sorted

Now you’ve seen references to All Set Up and Flower Cannonball this whole article, so let’s move on to those! We only play 1 All Set Up since we search it off our ride line. If you have a Michu vanguard, we can rest it to Soul Charge 1 and choose up to one Cannonball card from our hand and put it into the Order Zone. Speaking of Cannonball cards, Flower Cannonball is a Set Order: Cannonball. It can enter play via All Set Up or by CB1. It also has the effect where it goes to drop and changes our grade 3 Michu’s Cannonball effect to “When this unit attacks, SB2 and choose 3 of your units and they get +10k until end of turn.” We run 4 copies, and this is a card you want to see in your opening hand, along with Noqno. You can discard Noqno to ride the grade 1 Michu, which puts the All Set Up into your Order Zone. This lets you SB1 to call Noqno, then you rest All Set Up to play Flower Cannonball, letting you draw and SC1.

Finally, we have our sentinels and triggers. I’m running 3 of the standard Lyrical booster set PGs, in this case Unwelcoming in Private, Desiel. I also use 1 copy of Elementaria Sanctitude since that helps against grade 4 and Stride decks. Our core trigger lineup is any of the Lyrical OTs, 4 of any Lyrical heals, 4 of any Lyrical Crits. Then, use 4 Precious Tune, Edwige and 3 Snowskip, Palvi, the effect Front trigger. If we weren’t limited to 8 critical triggers, this would be 3 more. However, we use these for extra shields and because if we ran draws, we would likely deck out.

If you want another upgrade for the deck, you can look into Beware of Overeating, Eileen. This is one of the best generic cards in Lyrical. It also has a reprint in the upcoming Festival Collection. Also special thanks to DifferentFight and OuterOrange for helping me learn the deck myself!

Alright, that’s all for me for now! I’ll catch everyone next time with our return to V Premium format! May all your drives be triggers!
