MHA Deck Tech: Mt Lady

Four MHA decks in a BCW Prime X4 Gaming Box

Mt. Lady is an interesting character that, unlike most other characters, wants additional copies of the character card in the stage. The first enhance fetches a copy from the discard pile and places it in the stage. If you can’t, then you add a card from discard to your momentum. You can then use the momentum to give your attack +2 damage per copy of Mt Lady in your stage. Being able to give all of your attacks +8 damage is powerful, but blocks can be an issue. To help get around this, I build the deck on Void, focused on kick attacks to add some speed. The full deck list can be found on UVS Ultra.

First, we have 3 extra copies of Mt Lady in the deck. This gives us a strong mid block and checks for a 6. As the gimmick relies on all copies being in your stage, it’s better to use Mt Lady’s enhance to fetch them from discard. Easily Excited is a solid 0 difficulty foundation that adds a little speed. Small and Limber likewise adds a little speed and damage. Lessons From Taiyaki cancels the next non-character ability your rival plays this attack. This is a great defense against effects like Wall Cling, as you want as much damage to go through as possible. Fighting Spirit acts similarly, flipping to cancel a non-character ability that reduces damage. Photogenic Hero can help get more copies of Mt Lady in play, as well as stop speed buffing.

As mentioned above, the attacks in the deck focus on Kicks for speed buffs. Half the attacks have EX, which can help add a little extra if you have Momentum to spare. The ideal opening is Recipro Extend, followed by Engine Rush. On the other hand, the last attack you play should either be Blitz Knee or Recipro Acceleration Kick. I find Blitz Knee is better in earlier turns, as the opponent is less likely to waste resources blocking it, helping set up your later turns. Recipro Acceleration Kick is usually going to be your finisher, able to get massive speed bonuses from its ability to let your clear your card pool to pay for EX. Combine this with Mt. Lady’s damage bonus and you have a massive threat. The combo ability can be extremely disruptive as well, and is easily overlooked.

Spread of My Hero Academia cards with deck.

There are several cards that this deck would love. “Fusion” is a cheap foundation that gives and EX or Kick +2 speed. Engine Trouble is a quick and easy way to shut down a troublesome Foundation for a turn. Roundhouse Exhaust may have a place in the deck, as it has decent damage and can prevent speed reduction, making it another potential finisher.

Overall, the performance of the deck depends on how many copies of Mt Lady can get on your stage. If you get the 3 extra copies in the stage quickly, the game tends to end quickly in your favor. If you go more than a few turns without getting another one in play, you might as well fold. With all that in mind, this is a fine casual deck, as it isn’t overwhelming and is fun to play. It plays similarly to other characters that want to stack damage, but is less prone to disruption.
