Media Storage Boxes are Great for Movies, TV Shows – and Video Games, Too!

By Sal Barry

Storing physical media can be a constant challenge for collectors. Video games, DVDs and/or Blu-ray Discs add up over time and take up a lot of space. I understand why many have sold off their DVD or video game collections, since much of this can be streamed or downloaded via the internet. But there are good reasons for keeping your physical media, and that’s where BCW’s Media Storage Boxes can help you stay organized while keeping your collection pristine.

I’ve kept most of my DVDs from the past 20 years because there isn’t one streaming service for everything, and frankly, I’m getting tired of constantly figuring out which service I need to pay for to watch a TV show or movie I like. That’s why I’ll never get rid of the DVDs of my favorite films and TV series.

The same goes for video games. Many games can be downloaded nowadays, but some cannot. And if you are a game collector, then you’d still want to own a copy of the original Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo or the first John Madden Football for Sega Genesis, complete with box and instructions.

One way to make storing your media collection more manageable is to put away the DVDs that you don’t watch frequently or the games that you don’t play very often. For example, I’ll always hang onto my Transformers and G.I. Joe DVDs because I never know when the nostalgia bug will bite, and I want to watch some 1980s cartoons. But I don’t necessarily need to have those stored on a shelf in my living room; otherwise, I’d quickly run out of space. It’s more of an inconvenience to try and fit everything on my media shelf than it is to pull a box out of my close to retrieve a DVD I rarely watch. Media Storage Boxes will hold up to 30 DVD movies or around 15 VHS tapes in cardboard sleeves.

While these boxes are designed to hold DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and VHS tapes, they are excellent for storing video games – especially if you keep the boxes. Media Storage Boxes nicely fit the following game boxes:

  • Most vintage Atari games (2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar)
  • Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Game Cube and Wii
  • Sega Master System and Sega Genesis
  • XBOX, XBOX 360, XBOX One and XBOX X/S Series
  • Playstation, Playstation 2, 3, 4 and 5

The number of games you can fit in a Media Storage Box varies by the era it was released. You can probably fit 15-18 oldschool games like Atari, Nintendo or Sega; and upwards of 30 XBOX, Playstation or other games that come in DVD-style packaging. Certain games, like Intellivision or original Playstation games, came in cardboard boxes that are slightly too tall and need to be turned sideways to store. Regardless, if you are not going to play your games regularly and don’t need to have them on display, where exposure to light over time can fade the colors on the packaging, then Media Storage Boxes are the way to go.

Finally, Media Storage Boxes are quite sturdy. Even though a box full of DVDs weighs less than 10 lbs., these boxes can hold up to 60 lbs. of weight. The boxes also have a 200-lb. strength test, meaning you could stack many of these on top of each other and rest assured that your favorite movies or treasured video games will remain safe and undamaged.
